CANCIÓN DE CUNA PARA FUEGIA BASKET (2018)
Canción de cuna para Fuegia Basket is a piece for orchestra inspired by the journey of the Kawésqar girl, Fuegia Basket. The work begins with primitive and natural sounds of the wind, giving way to turbulent and unstable sonorities, then concluding in a pure orchestration. The construction and subsequent dismantling of the sounds function as a metaphor for the journey of the captive girl in the expedition to Chilean Patagonia, Fitz Roy. Along with other Indians, including Jemmy Button, Fuegia is transferred to England to be educated under the English customs of the nineteenth century, in the midst of the industrial revolution. After having stayed more than a year in this condition, Fuegia is returned to its homeland, Tierra del Fuego: a place that, however, is no longer its own.
